R.B. Brenner is a New York City-based writer and editor. He was a newspaper reporter and editor for 27 years, taught journalism for 16 years, and consulted on two films. He recently retired from the journalism faculty at Stanford University. Previously, he was a professor and journalism school director at the University of Texas-Austin from 2014 to 2018. His newsroom career included eight years at The Washington Post, serving in a number of high-level positions. As Metropolitan Editor, he was a principal editor of coverage awarded the first Pulitzer Prize for breaking news in the newspaper’s history. He also helped lead the merger of The Washington Post and washingtonpost.com newsrooms. As a reporter, he covered local and stateside beats for newspapers in North Carolina and California.
