Gina M. Masullo (Ph.D., S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Syracuse University) is an Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Media and Associate Director of the Center for Media Engagement, both in Moody College of Communication at The University of Texas at Austin. They entered academia after a 20-year career as a newspaper reporter and editor in Upstate New York. They authored “Online Incivility and Public Debate: Nasty Talk,” and “The New Town Hall: Why We Engage Personally with Politicians,” as well as co-edited “Scandal in a Digital Age.” Their latest book, “Midlife Sapphic Revelation in the Digital Age,” is due out in August 2025.
Masullo’s research has been funded by the American Press Institute, Dallas Free Press, Facebook, Google, John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, Lenfest Institute for Journalism, University of Missouri – Reynolds Journalism Institute, William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, Moody College of Communication, and The University of Texas at Austin.
