The Center for Media Engagement’s paper, “Digital Divisions: Organizational Gatekeeping Practices” was recently published in the 2015 edition of the International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ) academic journal.
Research for the paper came from our two previous News Engagement Workshops. During the workshops, digital news leaders from a variety of organizations discussed challenges their newsrooms faced, as well as ideas for future innovation.
In the paper, researchers Alex Curry, Josh Scacco and Talia Stroud write that while current academic research treat news organizations as relatively homogenous, our workshops revealed that divisions do exist among news organizations.
Scacco presented our findings as part of a research session at the 16th International Symposium on Online Journalism, hosted by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin.
