Meet the Research Scholars: Michael Sanchez

MichaelheadshotMichael Sanchez, a third-year Plan II major, pursues the study of Design Strategies with UT’s new School of Design and Creative Technologies. He brings the design principles he learns to his other work, from analyzing the Cybersyn command room of 1970s Chile to developing communications strategy for Apricity Magazine. Michael attended a lecture his freshman year that let him see the importance of citizen journalism. Since then, he’s realized the ethical questions journalists consider also should be considered by everyone using social media. He looks forward to researching the ethics of social media and other topics for the Media Ethics Initiative this semester.
Media Ethics Initiative Research Scholars earn credits and research experience by working with the Media Ethics Initiative to promote reflection on media ethics among students and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin. They gain valuable skills by assisting the organizing and promotion of Media Ethics Initiative events, as well as by researching and writing case studies in media ethics. Interested UT Austin students can sign up for a 1, 2, or 3 credit internship for the fall or spring semester. For more information on the Media Ethics Initiative Research Scholar program, visit here.
