Dr. Talia Stroud, director of the Center for Media Engagement, had the opportunity to lead a talk with Washington Post reporter and Pulitzer Prize winner David Fahrenthold when he visited the University of Texas at Austin on September 23. The talk was sponsored by the New Politics Forum, part of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life.
Current UT-Austin students and future civic leaders listened as Fahrenthold discussed his coverage of President Donald Trump’s business interests and charitable activities, as well as his thoughts on the future of the journalism industry.
Much of the conversation focused on Fahrenthold’s use of crowdsourcing on Twitter and how to use social media as an effective reporting tool. This reporting tactic contributed to his being awarded the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting.
