The Center for Media Engagement’s Josh Scacco and Katie Steiner, along with ProPublica’s Amanda Zamora, led a workshop on audience engagement as part of the 17th annual International Symposium on Online Journalism (ISOJ), hosted by the Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas at the University of Texas at Austin.
During the workshop, Scacco and Steiner presented Center for Media Engagement’s research on improving engagement while Zamora shared the engagement strategies she uses to create ProPublica’s crowd-powered journalism.

Also during an ISOJ research panel, Scacco gave a sneak peek of research CME has been doing on headlines. One finding he shared was that, compared to traditional headlines, headlines that contain a question prompted a negative reaction from test participants.
