Jiemin Looi is a doctoral student from the Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations at The University of Texas at Austin. She earned her Bachelor’s (First Class Honors/ Summa Cum Laude) and Master’s by Research in Communication Studies from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Her research focuses on public opinion and social persuasion in advertising and risky technologies.
Jiemin’s research has been published in top-tier academic journals including Public Understanding of Science, Energy Research & Social Sciences, Energy Policy, and Environmental Communication. In the 2019 Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication annual conference, Jiemin’s work was awarded the Best Published Article (3rd Place) in the Communicating Science, Health, Environment, & Risks Division. She also clinched the Top Student Paper Award in the Communication and Technology Division at the 2017 International Communication Association Academic Conference.
