SUMMARY:COGSEC Pre-conference Competitions
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Media Engagement\, in partnership with Conference Chair Tim Hwang\, will host COGSEC\, a new conference focusing on the real-world practice of countering online influence operations. The conference will be held virtually on March 4-5\, 2021 \nCOGSEC is aimed at bringing together a community of practitioners on the front lines of dealing with and actively combatting the efforts of malign actors online. The conference will feature practical\, hands-on workshops on hunting and neutralizing disinformation campaigns\, and competitions exposing vulnerabilities that persist in our information landscape.  \nCOGSEC is hosting two pre-conference competitions over the next few months. One competition will pit teams against one another in creating and detecting faked images. The second will focus on uncovering different aspects of the disinformation ecosystem surrounding the upcoming US presidential election.  \nCompetition winners will receive honoraria up to $10\,000 and will be invited to keynote at the conference in the spring.
